New Days…

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008 | everyday, holidays, photography, school, something, trips | 2 Comments

The last few weeks have been wonderful. :) There’s something liberating in doing what you love for a change.

I’ve been drawing, sewing, thinking, reading, walking, loving… I made a pinhole camera out of a matchbox! Following these instructions, I think it actually turned out pretty well. Judging from the one or two pictures that kinda have potential of being decent…

I just got the film developed, not the pictures, everything’s over exposed, but it besides that, it seems to be working. My darling and I went to Fotoantika a few weeks ago and got an old light meter, hopefully it only needs new batteries and the exposure problem will be gone. Banished! (Banned?)

Also, on a similar note, we went to Foto Ex Tempore in Kras. It was really fun, I’d show off with a picture or two, but I was analogue for the day. (I prefer film for some reason.) I did miss a display thingie though, the rotate-able kind, so I can take pictures at weird angles. Also, to see if I actually got any right. Motion blur loves me, I’m told. Keep your fingers crossed!

Ships That Pass…

As every year around New Year’s, recollections of the past 356 days are very trendy. I don’t feel up for a contemplation deep enough to do it justice, so I won’t bother.

However, New Years comes tied together with a lot of things. Some of them enjoyable, most not that much. The one thing I really hate about New Year’s, that I forget about every year, are fire-crackers. I am terrified of those things, I hate the bangs, I hate the bams and the bum’s. Bljah. Where’s the appeal in blowing up a trash can? Seriously, if you know, tell me.

Obligations…

Why does Christmas come with so much protocol? If you don’t send cards, people resent you. As if sending a post card to someone I see every other day is proof of disdain. I never remember to send cards. I even bring them home from most trips, I’m too absent minded for that. And I don’t really connect Christmas, which is just another day, to all the fuss people make. It’s like the Day of the Dead, or Valentine’s Day. If I don’t think of you on this day, I’m a bad person, but it doesn’t matter if I ignore you all year around. How comforting.

In a household, consisting of an agnostic, a new age spiritualist, an atheist and a 14 y/o, how does “because it’s holy night” make for a valid argument? We have to do xyz cause it’s appropriate? Not cause we’d want to, cause it’d be nice or cause we care, but because that’s what you do on X-mas.

Frustrating.

It reminds me of the arguments we used to have when I was a kid:
Me: “But why?”
Mom: “Because!”
Me: “Why because?”
Mom: “Because I said so.”

That is still the most enraging thing you can do to me. Give me a justification that doesn’t serve itself. “Because I want to.” IS a good reason. “Because it’s appropriate.”, “Because everybody’s doing it.”, “What will they think if you don’t?”, “Because.” is not.

It’s SNOWING in Zagreb!!!

Long Story Short….

The past few days have been quite eventful. For one thing, I no longer have to depend on the good will of my sister, to be able to use the computer. Yes people, that’s right, I am no longer computerless. A few days ago, my uncle knocked on the door, with a functional machine. You can imagine my surprise, I’m sure. :) I am very grateful.

However, upon turning the beast on (Shhh! Pervs. You know what I mean. -.-), I realised that only half of my keyboard was functioning properly. Since I didn’t have much to do, without a keyboard, I occupied myself with the mouse. Thus, a new blog look was born.

I hope you like it. :)
I do.

Maths in the Summer…

It’s a weird feeling, not having to do anything. It’s been 3 years since I’ve had a proper holiday. I have yet to pass a year in High School without a make-up test. In my first year, it was Biology. Silly, I know, I didn’t study during the year. In my first second year, it was Geography and Maths. Geography, like Biology, wasn’t a problem to fix, but Maths… Uf, Maths. It’s actually quite an interesting subject, the only problem is that I suck at it.

But I passed yesterday, for a change. :p And on to my 4th year of High School, I go. Thanks to one of my friends, who taught me everything that I didn’t forget, or mix up, when it actually needed to be used. There’s a girl with a lot of patience. :)

Some Metal Camp 07 Snapshots

Oh My Brothers… (MC ‘07)

Friday, July 27th, 2007 | concerts, holidays, music, photography, trips | 1 Comment

… appy-polly-logies, as Alex would say, for the delay. This is the report from Metal Camp 2007. Subjective and biased, but the blog is personal. It always seems to be harder to write about times that are full of interesting and awesome things, than about times that are dull. With dull things, at least you know where to start, but with the awesome things you could just randomly pick anything. Decisions, decisions… Oh the horror.
What if I should try starting at the beginning? Would that be too radical?

I had to get up at 5am on the day of the departure, to pack and go to my father’s at 6. Mission accomplished, except for the slight inconvenience of a lost list of things not to forget, and a list of things that were forgotten on previous festivals. In the end it all turned out all right, more or less. You’d be surprised how many things you just think you need, but one thing is for sure, Douglas Adams was absolutely correct when he said that you should ALWAYS have a towel.

We got a free ride from Ljubljana to Tolmin, in exchange for a plate of Laško. Fair trade, we weren’t complaining and neither were the co-passengers. (:

The first task, upon arival to Tolmin (with a stop every 15 minutes, so the boys could go use the little boy’s room) was finding a camping spot that is at least somewhat shady. Waking up at 7am every morning, because of the heat, wasn’t in my interest spectrum. We found something that looked shady enough, but there were some weird branches right in the middle of it, tied together… We asked the security if we can move that away and build our tent and did so with their permission. Just as we were finishing up on the tent, a guy drops by, telling us that the area is reserved and if we could please leave. As imposing on someone else’s territory really wasn’t our plan either, we agreed and went on a quest for a new shady place… After we found it and took down our tent again, the guy came back, telling us that we’re free to stay if we wish, cause the guys whose place we stole decided they don’t wanna be there anyway. XD At least we learned how to build that bloody thing properly. (:

That was it for the first day, the rest of Monday was spent solving crossword puzzles and chatting away. Come to think of it, most of the week was spent chatting away…

Even on Tuesday, the first thing to see was Sepultura in the evening. I’m not a fan so I didn’t really get in the mood, I sat on the flower pot through their show, while my cousin was a few meters more in the front. It turned out to be more interesting than expected, a few Korpiklaani members were standing right next to me. Jonne shared my opinion of Union… To my cousin he said something along the lines of: “This beer tastes like shit.” … We know. =/

We spent a lot of time sitting by the Soča river, a really beautiful sight, even though the river was just… no other way to put it, bloody freezing. I swear my toes went numb after a while, but in comparison to the heat, it was a sacrifice worth making. Once you came out you didn’t feel hot anymore, which is reason enough to jump in… Not too often though. (:

Also, there was a mechanical bull on MC, amongst other silly things, such as bartenders with water guns… [x]

On Wednesday we had Korpiklaani and Doro on our To-See list. Korpiklaani were awesome, as always. There aren’t that many things or bands that can compare to the amount of energy they show on stage, or to the atmosphere they create. Something comfortable, wild and uplifting… Doro’s stage energy and audience contact was also something I wasn’t expecting. She sure knows how to move on stage, I’m not a fan, I merely like some songs, but that was a great show. Also, another thing, Die Apokalyptichen Reiter, who were lined up right before Korpiklaani, surprised me in a positive way. (:

On Thursday I didn’t have much to look forward too, again. (I’m afraid I’m going to be crucified for the previous statement.) There were Graveworm, Unleashed, Pain (I hear there were all ladies in the front (; ), Satyricon and Kreator. The only thing I really, really, really wanted to see were Kreator, which didn’t display even half of last year’s energy. But to keep things fair, it was probably the audience’s fault just as much as theirs. I missed almost everything else, I can’t remember exactly what we were doing, but we were either chatting in front of the tents, or having a beer somewhere. I did go take a vid of Pain for Ling though. I promised.

Friday was a bit more down my lane, with Eluveitie and Ensiferum. Both phenomenal, though Eluveitie had the misfortune of playing in horrid heat and Ensiferum kinda messed up their set-list… I wished for more lively songs. Lai Lai Hei was, of course, a must… And a Slovene surprise! Well, not exactly a surprise as I’ve seen them play before, but Slovene never the less, Zvier. Thumbs up, what can I say. Great music. (: I was a bit sorry to miss Obnounce, another great Slovene band, but they were playing at the same time as Motörhead.

Oh, I almost forgot this year’s disaster, Cradle of Filth. Dani supposedly went drinking with some Slovene people and got so pissed drunk that he couldn’t hold the mic or sing properly. The sound was bad throughout the week in general, and I’m guessing that didn’t help. Dani started smashing the lights and threw two ventilators at the security and the audience. The audience, of course, was rather upset. Dani supposedly got even more ticked off at the crowd showing him the finger and left. He smashed his hotel room, as I’ve heard. The show only lasted around 30 minutes. However, all this I found out after the end of the festival and there were slight variations to the story, so I apologise if I got it wrong, you are free to correct me. When it came to making a choice between seeing CoF and having a cold beer in the shade, the beer won. Sorry, Dani… One less person to embarrass yourself in front of.

Finally, the day I’ve been waiting for. Saturday, the 20th of July 2007 at 22:45 Blind Guardian were to have us recite the “The field is lost! Everything is lost!” speech and storm into… Well, Into the Storm. (Pun not intended. XD) The show was great, they played all of my favourite songs… Well, the ones I expected, anyway. Mirror Mirror, The Bard’s Song, Born in a Mourning Hall, Valhalla, Fly… And so on. (: I was right in the front, thanks to Jesus/Jure. It was definitely the best part of Metal Camp. What I waited for all week and what I’ll remember most.

There And Back Again…

Because no matter where you go, you always end up where you started somehow. Or so I’m told, anyway… Unfortunately, I’m a bit too tired to type out the MC report at this moment, but let me just say: Great company, some great bands and a LOT of sun.

That and, as you might have guessed, I’m back. :)

Hell Over Paradise…

Such is the tagline for MC, otherwise known as Metal Camp, the best thing since digital watches.

I admit there aren’t many bands there this year that I really like and haven’t seen yet. To be honest, out of all the bands there that I really like, there’s only one I haven’t seen yet, Eluveitie. =/ But the rest are deffinitely worth seeing again, especially my ambrosia, Blind Guardian.

I remember a few years ago, there were these guys who went to Gods Of Metal mostly to see Megadeth… And they overslept. Can you imagine the horror? Ugh.

Anyway, I’m off till… My cousin says the 22nd. She’s probably right, I’m bad with dates.

Tata. =)
